Mass Shooters Portrayal in the Media

In recent years, mass shootings have been frequent and sadly the characteristics attributed to shooters have been portrayed unjustly through the media. When labelling these mass shooters, the adjectives that are used to describe them are vastly different. Minority groups are portrayed as animals, thugs, terrorists, and other names. While, white mass shooters are portrayed as 'mentally ill'. There is a stark difference between the two racial groups portrayal throughout the media when it comes to this topic, my proposal is that these public labels only increase hysteria about terrorism and amplifies that the negative connotations of minorities and misrepresents them.
